At a Saint Paul Star High School, students find a
place that values them as individuals, while preparing them for
college, careers, and active participation in their communities.
Star High Schools are small, public charter schools
that are open to any student that meets the grade and age requirements.
Star Schools do not charge tuition.
The Star High Schools have received support from the
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through the Center for School Change
at the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Center for Public
Affairs.

The
Star Schools
Each of the Saint Paul Star High Schools has created an important model for small school excellence. Together, they are also creating a collaborative model that has produced cooperation in activities offered to students and staff.
Augsburg/Fairview Academy for Health Careers : The Augsburg Academy serves high school students from diverse communities who are motivated to pursue a rigorous high school academic program. Students can earn various certificates leading to good jobs immediately after high school. Students are preparing for a vocation in health care, for post secondary studies leading to a health care career, or for advanced studies in any program that has high standards for student academics. The Academy is affiliated with several large faith-based organizations including: Fairview Health Systems, Augsburg College, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Lutheran Social Services, Luther Seminary, and Central Lutheran Church. The Academy is committed to addressing health disparities within communities of color and helping students from these communities pursue careers in the health professions.

Great River School : Great River School provides middle and high school students (grades 7-12) with an authentic Montessori learning environment. There are currently only a handful of authentic Montessori public high schools in the world, and none in Minnesota. An internationally recognized expert in adolescent Montessori philosophy helped design the Great River School pedagogy and curriculum. Great River also offers International Baccalaureate courses to help carry its ideas of challenging students with active learning classes and projects. Phone: 651.305.2780, Christina Beck, director.
Minnesota North Star Academy : The Minnesota North Star Academy is the first and only non-residential high school in Minnesota to provide a bilingual-bicultural, student-centered curriculum for students who communicate using American Sign Language (ASL)--primarily those who are deaf, deaf/blind and hard-of-hearing. North Star Academy is working closely with Gallaudet University and CSD (Communication Services for the Deaf), and has strong support from the national deaf community. The North Star curriculum provides an important new model for deaf education. MNSA combined with Metro Deaf School in fall, 2009 to provide a K-12 school.

Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists : The Conservatory provides a world-class, professionally guided academic and artistic environment to train aspiring pre-professional artists in the areas of instrumental and vocal music, theater, dance, and film and television production. The Conservatory is affiliated with several large arts organizations and the city of Saint Paul, and is sponsored by the Ordway Center for Performing Arts. Its headquarters is on the fifth floor of Landmark Center in downtown St Paul.

Twin Cities Academy : Twin Cities Academy High School is committed to enhancing the capacity of young adults in developing ones ability to lead in an ever changing world through academic rigor, leadership development and character building. TCAHS is committed to providing a college preparatory program and instruction for grades nine through twelve. The program will concentrate on the mastery of grade level skills, state and federal educational mandates, and preparation for studies beyond high school. It will be infused with high academic standards and expectations, along with character and leadership development.
Students are assigned homework nightly. They are expected to turn in assignments on time. There are consequences for late or incomplete assignments. Projects and special assignments require additional time outside of class. TCAHS is a uniform school. Also on the campus is a grades 6-8 school, Twin Cities Academy. The school thus provides an option grades 6-12.
