Please read all application instructions carefully.  Incomplete applications will not be considered for review.  Applications must be postmarked no later than Friday, May 9th.

Complete application packets must include:

  1. Cover Letter, including statement of ability to participate in Academy sessions M-Th, July 28-31 and M-T, August 4-5.
  2. Signed statement from current employer confirming that applicant will be allowed to attend six full day Leadership Academy sessions during summer, 2008 and an additional six week-day sessions during the school year (dates to be determined).  A copy of this confirmation statement can be downloaded from the Center for School Change website.

  3. Resume (3-page maximum), including:
    • Name
    • Address
    • Phone Number(s)
    • E-Mail Address
    • Current Employer (including contact info)
    • Highest Educational Degree attained
    • Educational/Administrative Licenses and Certificates held
    • Name and contact information for two professional references (do not send letters of reference)
    • All education, all job experiences since college, and all significant accomplishments, especially related to leadership and student achievement and:
  4. Four short essays; one in response to each of the following prompts (maximum of 250 words for each prompt; essays longer than 250 words will be not be read).
    • What interests you about participating in the Leadership Academy and about being the director/principal of a charter public school or alternative school?  How do you hope to use the knowledge you gain as a Leadership Academy participant?
    • What makes you a strong candidate for this program?  What would you have to offer to the other participants?  What unique perspectives would you bring to this opportunity?
    • Describe a challenging leadership experience you have had, as either a formal or informal leader of a group of people.  Describe what you learned from this experience.
    • Describe and provide evidence of how you, as a teacher or as an administrator, have had a significant impact on student achievement.  Please include specific information about a class you taught or a school you directed.

Leadership Academy applications must be submitted via U.S. Mail; postmarked NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 9th to:

Leadership Academy finalists will be contacted for a phone interview between May 21-June 2.  All applicants will receive written notification of whether or not they have been accepted into the program no later than June 13th.
