POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - Event
& Communications Intern
The Minnesota
Association of Charter Schools is seeking a part-time intern to support its communications
and event activities related to charter schools in Minnesota. This is a paid internship that
will begin in August and go through December 2008.
The event &
communications intern will play an important role in the work of the
Association by providing consistent and outstanding administrative support and
by assisting in the creative development and execution of communications and
events initiatives. He/she will have the
opportunity to learn about public charter schools and the work of the
Association by assisting with communications and events that directly impact
charter schools across the state of Minnesota.
The successful candidate
will have strong oral communications, writing and research skills, will exhibit
creativity and innovative thinking, and will demonstrate the ability to take
direction and to work collaboratively, as well as the ability to manage
multiple tasks. Applicants with a strong
interest in communications, public relations and event management are
encouraged to apply.
Areas of Responsibilities
Communications -
Development & Implementation
·
Newsletters
(print and online): develop various design formats, conduct research for future
articles, write content pieces, and assist in distribution to designated
audiences, as well as maintain and update subscriber lists
·
Surveys: develop survey design, write questions and
manage distribution on various assigned topics to charter community
·
Website: assist in maintaining website content, as
well as researching and writing new content pieces
·
Research
and develop products for general marketing and communication campaign
initiatives as assigned (i.e. brochures, guidebooks, charter school directory, press
releases, etc.)
·
Assist
with administrative projects, such as general communication mailings and
maintenance of the Association database
Event & Program
Management
·
Research
& provide administrative support to the Convention Planning Committee
·
Assist
in coordinating event logistics
·
Participate
in staffing and coordinating MN Association of Charter Schools events (such as the
MN State Fair, and our Fall Convention & Annual Meeting)
Skills and Experience
·
Ability
to work independently, manage multiple issues and projects and prioritize
responsibilities
·
Ability
to collaborate with others and think creatively, developing innovative and
unique strategies for successful communication campaigns
·
Strong
organizational, research, writing (print and online) and oral communications
skills
·
Experience
and/or interest in communications, publication design, public relations and
event management
·
Interest
in and commitment to the mission and values of the MN Association of Charter
Schools
·
An
aptitude with a range of software including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, desktop
publishing programs, and basic website and database management
Salary and Work Hours
·
Hourly
compensation ranging from $10- $15 per hour based upon experience and/or
academic background.
·
Approximately
15 - 20 hours a week with flexible scheduling.
