EXCEPTIONAL CLASSICAL LEADERS WANTED

 

Nova Classical Academy, a charter school situated in the attractive Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota, is seeking exceptional leadership: (1) a part-time Executive Director for the 2008-2009 academic year, and (2) a full-time Head of School beginning in fall 2009. These positions will work closely with our Dean of Students and Curriculum Director to ensure that the Academy continues its record of outstanding achievement. Full job descriptions are available.

Nova Classical Academy currently serves 385 students in grades K-8 students, with plans to expand to grade 12. As a parent-initiated school, Nova offers an academically accelerated and enriched curriculum based upon a rigorous, thorough, systematic, and challenging college-preparatory education in the classical tradition. It is a school of excellence: Nova’s students have achieved some of the highest test scores in Minnesota -- in many cases, the highest. While open to all Minnesota students, its students tested first in the 2006-2007 Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments in 3 separate categories among all public schools in the state. Instruction includes the formal study of Latin beginning in elementary school and logic beginning in middle school.

Executive Director

 

The ideal candidate will have, at a minimum, administrative charter school experience and a familiarity with Minnesota policies and requirements. This position entails 20 to 30 hours per week for the 2008-2009 school year.

 

Head of School

The ideal candidate will have administrative experience and a passion for classical education.

Michael Frome Academy

Business Manager Position

The Michael Frome Academy (“MFA”) is an environment-focused, K-5 charter school, opening fall 2008 on the East side of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. MFA will provide students with a rigorous academic program, including place-based learning, inquiry-based science and math, balanced literacy, arts, technology, outdoor experiential education, and a Suzuki music program. The mission of the Michael Frome Academy is to develop a ‘green’ school where the facility, operations, and educational program reflect a commitment to environmental sustainability and to prepare our young citizens to become leaders and models of exemplary, responsible citizenship, and stewards of the natural environment.

The Michael Frome Academy is currently seeking a Business Manager with a potential start date of April 1, 2008.

Areas of Responsibility

· Oversee and perform financial activities, including reporting, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and investments

· Responsible for budget preparation and control, financial analysis and forecasting, and annual financial audit preparation

· Develop, implement, and maintain internal financial reporting systems, financial controls, and school’s business policies and procedures

· Support School Directors in problem solving, procedural issues, budgeting, and risk management

· Oversee the development and maintenance of the school’s personnel policies and procedures

Key Skills of Ideal Candidate

· Working knowledge of public charter school accounting policies, procedures, and software programs

· Strategic and creative problem solving skills

· Ability to lead, motivate and influence others

· Ability to drive execution

· Enjoys working in small, collaborative environment that supports direct communication, peer accountability, and consultative decision-making

KIPP Minnesota Mission Statement: KIPP Minnesota will build and support a family of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory schools in Minnesota that prepare educationally underserved students to find success in college and in life. KIPP STAND Academy: KIPP STAND Academy will be the first school in the KIPP Minnesota family. KIPP STAND Academy will open with a class of approximately 90 fifth-graders for the 2008-2009 school year and will add one grade each year until it is a fully-enrolled 5th-8th grade middle school.

KIPP STAND Academy will work to fulfill the mission of KIPP Minnesota by providing excellent, intentional instruction; analyzing and reacting to data; communicating openly and working as a team; and modeling the school values of integrity, self-awareness, grit, pride, and fun.

Unique Features: KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is the network of 57 free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools across the country dedicated to sending all its students to and through college. Over 90 percent of KIPP students are African-American or Hispanic/Latino and over 80% qualify for the federal free and reduced price meal programs. Nationally, about 80 percent of KIPP alumni have matriculated to college.

More time to learn: KIPP students are in school for about 60% more time than their peers, attending school from 7:30-5:00 every day, participating in Saturday enrichment activities every other week, and attending school for three weeks in the summer.
