Cityview Community School

This K - 8 school serves 557 students with 86% coming from low-income families. 1/3 of the student population is comprised of English Language Learners (ELL). The school will focus on increasing reading levels of all students by one grade or more, in one academic year. Also, Cityview will focus on increasing parent, community, and corporation collaboration efforts. Examples of partnership activities include parent nights, reading marathons, and weekly community building activities.

This K- 5 school serves 235 students with approximately 85% coming from low-income families. Mathematics is the area Cooper has chosen to focus on due to below District expectation across grade levels and racial/ethnic groups. The school will implement a new, school-wide project to reform its mathematics curriculum. Cooper aims to enhance its parent and community partnerships by performing a needs assessment to identify better ways to improve this involvement in meeting the schools math goals.

Franklin Middle School

This 6 - 8 school serves 675 students whose home attendance area represents 28 different neighborhoods in the north half of Minneapolis. Franklin's goal is to increase student achievement in reading, both individually and aggregately. The school seeks to expand its knowledge and use of technology to meet the diverse needs of its students. Increased collaboration between Franklin staff, families, community, and business partnerships will also be explored to enhance student achievement.

This K - 5 school serves 741 students, 90% of whom are students of color, and 90% come from low-income families. The school aims to increase the percentage of 1st-5th graders that make at least one year's growth in reading achievement, for every year they are in the school. They will expand partnerships with senior citizens, an area church and families to accomplish this goal.

Park View Montessori School

This school serves 300 students grades K - 6. Park View's program is available to students from north, northeast, and southeast parts of the city. The school has initiated a "School Improvement Plan" goal for math and intends to increase the percentage of students who are on track to pass mathematics skills tests each year. Park View strives to include as many adults as possible in the lives of their children and seeks increased collaboration efforts with families and community organizations.

This K - 5 school serves 240 students primarily from low-income families. About 10% of students are homeless and reside in nearby shelters. Reading and math are the academic areas of focus. The school aims to increase test scores, narrow the learning gap, and increase student achievement through parent and community involvement initiatives. These efforts will include increasing parent participation in conferences and the use of a recently hired Family Liaison.

This middle school serves 575 students, grades 6 - 8. 28% percent of the students are Somali, 33% are African American, 8% Southeast Asian, 10% Native American, and 21% Caucasian. The school will focus on improving reading and math achievement, along with increasing family involvement from about 10% to 40% in the next year. 79% of the students come from low-income families.

Sojourner Truth Academy

This K - 6 charter school serves approximately 183 students, 91% of who come from low-income families, and 99% of who are students of color. The school will focus on improving math skills, as well as improving family school partnerships and mentoring/tutoring programs.

Zanewood Elementary

This K - 6, 500-student school will focus on improving math skills, and with working more effectively with families. More than 2/3 of the school's students are students of color. The school reports it has the highest percentage of students in the Twin Cities metro area eligible for free and reduced lunch, outside of Minneapolis and St. Paul (more than 60%).
