A Message from the Director

Welcome. We hope you’re visiting our website because you share our passion for providing excellent educational options for all learners. The mission of the Center for School Change-- to increase student achievement, raise graduation rates, improve students’ perspectives about school, and build school-community partnerships to strengthen the places where we live-- is at the center of everything we do. We hope that you find it reflected in all our work….

  • Want something you can use TODAY with youngsters – either in your family or your school? Check out our home page where we regularly highlight schools and communities doing extraordinary things to help and learn from young people.

  • Check out our current project summaries, where you can see what we’re working on as we try to improve learning, teaching and school at the school, community and policy levels

  • Check out our publications, which contain a vast array of information that can be useful, whether you are a parent, student, educator, school board member, legislator, foundation, state or federal official. You can see publications that we’ve done with students, educators, the National Governors’ Association, district and charter school educators, and a weekly newspaper column that I write. One of our favorites: the essays of youngsters, ages 7-18 who tell us why they are passionate about their schools.

  • Searching for a charter public school? You’ll find a comprehensive directory in our Minnesota Charter School Resource Center.

  • Questions about our work or about the future of education for young scholars? Don’t hesitate to contact any member of our leadership team. We’d love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

Joe

We can, whenever and wherever we choose, successfully teach all children whose schooling is of interest to us. We already know more than we need to in order to do that. Whether or not we do it must finally depend upon how we feel about the fact that we haven't so far.
